My Experience with the Amal Brain Declutter Project

Managing multiple responsibilities often leads to mental pressure. Today, I applied the Amal Project: Declutter Your Brain tools to organize my workflow. Here is a brief look at the process and what I learned.

The Process: Dump, Sort, and Block

I started with a Brain Dump, listing every task and worry taking up mental space. Seeing it all on paper immediately reduced my anxiety. Next, I used the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize:

1. Do Now: Urgent and important tasks
2. Schedule: Important but not urgent tasks
3. Delegate: Urgent but can be done by others
4. Eliminate: Tasks that add little or no value

I then used Time Blocking in my Google Calendar to assign specific hours to my highest-priority tasks, ensuring I had a clear roadmap for the day.

Execution: The Pomodoro Technique

To tackle a large 7-hour project, I used the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break).

  • The Experience: Breaking a massive task into small sprints made it feel manageable.

  • The Reward: Simple rewards like a quick walk or a cup of tea kept my energy levels high throughout the day.

Reflections

The template provided a much-needed structure. Instead of staring at a long, intimidating to-do list, I had a categorized dashboard. It helped me differentiate between tasks that were truly important and those that were just busy work.

I plan to do a brain dump every Monday morning. To improve the experience, I will focus on making my “Do Now” list even more specific to avoid over-committing myself.

Conclusion

This project taught me that productivity isn’t about doing more; it’s about doing what matters with a clear mind. By using these tools, I’ve moved from being overwhelmed to being in control.
